Artist's Statement
Important buildings and famous scenes are lovely, but they don’t evoke the same emotions as seeing a painting of your favorite corner bodega or neighborhood dry cleaner. In a big world, the ordinary and close-to-home are the most meaningful.
Whimsy is important to me, and I don’t believe in straight lines. I use watercolors sometimes in a very painterly way, other times just to color. I take inspiration from a variety of sources: Japanese anime, New Yorker covers, the ocean, even German landscape watercolorists Johann Georg von Dillis and Caspar David Friedrich.
